Grapevine
(by Michael Clem & Ellis Paul)
Grapevine, twisting around
It’s a straight line, from stake to ground
It’s a fine time, with bottles and friends all around us
Bring in the harvest
Who came the farthest?
Let’s all raise a glass
She was barefoot, he watched as she stomped
Took a long look, as she danced and she romped
til his Earth shook, she would be all that he’d need
It’s the heart that you feed
and the dancer agreed
Let’s all raise a glass
Fall bride, rented the grounds
She can’t hide, Is her belly round?
Can’t imbibe, but the groom is putting them down
Round after round
Til his fears are all drowned, Let’s all raise a glass
Gossip flew round the big tent
with each sip, slurring each statement
Til one slipped, that’s when the bride went
and held up her glass to the room
Here’s to my stumbling groom
& to our arrival that’s coming in June
Grapevine, twisting around
It’s a straight line, from stake to ground
It’s a fine time, with bottles and friends all around us
Bring in the harvest
Who came the farthest?
Let’s all raise a glass
