My After All
by Michael R. Clem
There was a time I saw me on a float
Showered by the ticker tape
Kissin’ hands and shakin’ babies
Weekends in the hills and Summers on the Cape
There was a time I saw me on a colt
Showered by the outlaws’ shells
Keeping peace and shaming villains
Could someone tell me where I fell
Where I fell?
I DON’T REALLY NEED AN ANSWER
I’M NOT LOOKING FOR A FRIEND AT ALL
IF YOU DON’T MIND I’M GONNA STAND HERE
RIGHT HERE
CUZ I KNOW THAT THIS IS MY AFTER ALL
There was a time I saw me on a cake
Showered by some bags of seed
Ever after into a limo
For two, or three, or four more weeks
I see myself on a John Deere rig
Keepin’ up with my massive lawn
Ever after into rummage sales
Could some one tell me what went wrong
what went wrong?
I DON’T REALLY NEED AN ANSWER
I’M NOT LOOKING FOR A FRIEND AT ALL
IF YOU DON’T MIND I’M GONNA STAND HERE
RIGHT HERE
CUZ I KNOW THAT THIS IS MY AFTER ALL
I see myself on a long used couch
I see myself passing out
I see myself in a long bank line
I see a man with a face like mine
There I am in a rearview mirror
& there’s a child who’s sitting near
I see myself as I am today
Barely an inch from yesterday
Was that yesterday?
I DON’T REALLY NEED AN ANSWER
I’M NOT LOOKING FOR A FRIEND AT ALL
IF YOU DON’T MIND I’M GONNA STAND HERE
RIGHT HERE
STAND HERE, RIGHT HERE – STAND HERE, RIGHT HERE
CUZ I KNOW – CUZ I KNOW – CUZ I KNOW
THAT THIS IS MY AFTER ALL
