Owls
(by Michael Clem)
This is a train of long goodbyes
Before I fall asleep
Death threats masked as lullabies
Because we went too deep
Through the rain and the attitude
I write lest I forget
and I’m not big on platitudes
and my hat is getting wet
When you play for keeps
You’re bound to lose
When you want it all – you’re bound to fall
Your inner voice – must make the choice
Before you burn – we’re gonna learn
Even owls get the blues
Here sits a gent with hungry eyes
He dates a girl on line
He gets a new one every night
and likes his life just fine
Tonight he’ll bounce with Tabitha
and can’t believe his luck
His laptop’s filled with a thousand shots
of girls who like to bounce
They’re not hung up on human height
in Belgium and in France
I got a gal who’s six foot tall
She blushes when we dance
Not too bad for the little man
Her chest touches my nose
I could stand to kiss her now
and will do so on my toes
