PECKIN’ PIE IN STAINTOWN
by Michael R. Clem
History has many-a-War of Words
Some have started just beCAUSE of words
not for definitions as they’re read
but simply how they are pronounced and said
Take for instance sweet pies made from nuts
not to do with how these pies are cut
But how the nut name comes out from someone’s mouth
It’s different in the the North than in the South
This nut is spelled P-E-C-A-N
I say let’s bring this conflict to an end
DON’T SAY PEEcan OR PeeCONN
IT’S PECKIN’
THAT’S WHAT I RECKON
LET’S JUST SAY PECKIN’
LET’S END THANKSGIVING WARS
AND ALL HOMEWRECKIN’
IT’S NOT REDNECKIN’
WHEN YOU SAY PECKIN’
IT’S NOT REDNECKIN’
WHEN YOU SAY PECKIN’
Seeing town names off I-81
This Yankee can’t pronounce a single one
exit 222 I get some gas
I say the town but I’m corrected fast
They must be joking – that don’t make no sense
I say let’s cut out all this rube pretense
DON’T SAY STANTON OR STAWNTON
CALL IT STAINTOWN
IT’S SUCH A PLAIN TOWN
LET’S CALL IT STAINTOWN
DON’T TELL LOCALS
OR HAVOC WILL RAIN DOWN
IT’S SUCH A PLAIN TOWN
LET’S GO WITH STAINTOWN
Some Tomato Some say ToMAHto,
don’t call the whole thing off
Some say Potato Some say PoTAHto
let’s all have a … laugh
OH, LET’S HAVE PECKIN’ PIE TONIGHT IN STAINTOWN
WE’LL TAKE A TRAIN DOWN
FOR PIE IN STAINTOWN
I’LL EAT SO MUCH PECKIN’
HOPE IT STAYS DOWN
GLORY AND PRAISE BOUND
FOR PIE IN STAINTOWN
WHEN YOU ARE IN STAINTOWN
PLEASE SAY PECKIN’
I’M JUST CHECKIN’
THAT YOU SAY PECKIN’
CALL ME NUTS BUT I LOVE PIES
WITH PECKINS
NOT ANY-OLE-PECKINS
BUT STAINTOWN PECKINS
NOT ANY-OLE-PECKINS
BUT STAINTOWN PECKINS
